Torsås becomes fastest network in Småland?

Waystream has received an order for the access-switch model ASR8000. The switches will be installed in Torsås municipality in the Småland province of Sweden. The initial installation during the autumn of 2020 is 500 connections and another 1000 connections during 2021. Using the ASR8000 it will be possible to deliver services in up to 10Gbit/s speed.

The residents of Torsås have had to wait a long time for their fiber broadband. After several twist and turns with different operators the Torsnet AB company, which is the new name of the municipality's district heating company, will now take matters into their own hands and will implement the network. Waystream's ASR8000 which can deliver services at up to 10Gbit/s will be deployed in the access.

"We will start right away. The plan is to have completed the first 500 households in 2020 and then supplement with additional areas next year," says Thomas Eriksson, CEO of Torsnet AB.

Torsnet builds an open access network where users will be able to freely select services from multiple service providers. The company expects to quickly be able to offer a wide selection of services in the network.

"In these Corona times, the importance of having a fast and reliable broadband network is fundamental to society. Such a network creates the best conditions for working from home, participating in distance education and much more. With the ASR8000, Torsås will have a broadband network at the forefront of fiber technology." says Fredrik Nyman , product manager at Waystream.

The ASR8000 is Waystream's flagship product. With 28 or 52 connections in each switch depending on the model that supports up to 10Gbit/s speed and which also includes telemetry and advanced service assurance fetures, it is the leading access switch for city networks.
