MPC480 Broadband Network Gateway
The MPC480 is a cost effective, pay-as-you-grow, Broadband Network Gateway (BNG). The MPC480 provides IPoE and PPPoE service control with up to 100Gbit/s throughput or 25,000 subscribers. The MPC480 can perform rate-limiting and control services for subscribers connected by a vast variety of technologies such as point-to-point Ethernet, GPON, xDSL, Cable-TV networks, wireless solutions and more. Supporting Customer-VLAN topologies and multiple services per customer, the MPC480 is perfect to meet increasing demands for Over the Top services as broadband customers subscribe to even faster services.
The MPC480 supports flow-based RADIUS authentication which allows static and dynamic services and redundant topologies to be used. The flow-based mechanism means that the MPC480 can enforce services also in topologies where the layer 2 C-VLAN is not terminated directly in the MPC480.
The MPC480 uses service template technology to support a vast array of different services that can be enforced with full control from the central RADIUS database. The solution supports CoA messages to trigger reauthentication for example as a result of login to a front-end web portal.
The MPC480 can be easily integrated with any RADIUS server to control services for connected subscribers.
Four line-card slots allows the number of 10Gbit/s interfaces to go from four up to 20. This means that the MPC480 can be deployed closer to the layer 2 access.
The pay-as-you-grow model means that you license only the number of subscribers (PPPoE sessions/C-VLANS) you mean to manage in the system. Licenses can be added dynamically as the network grows even as fine granular as in steps of one. Your investments match your revenue gain which also reduces business risk. In comparison with other available solutions in the Edge Router segment on the market, the MPC480 has a lower entry price and stays below the competition in price as the service delivery scales up.
The MPC480 also supports IP routing and MPLS which enables additional use-cases such as layer 2 VPNs for connected business customers or as a network border router with external peering.
Enhanced troubleshooting capabilities make network operation easier and improves the user experience with increased customer satisfaction and lower churn.
The MPC480 is built for cost effective Ethernet technology. Ethernet and IP is the foundation for all new networks and avoiding legacy technology means a better architecture and less complexity to reduce the overall cost. The MPC480 is built with network convergence in mind, using a flexible network processor with software defined features for service delivery.
Operating networks is a challenge and requires technical skill. The MPC480 operating system, iBOS, use an industry standard CLI to allow network engineers and other technical staff to quickly adapt to working with the platform, leveraging current skills and knowledge. In addition the iBOS operating system offers additional tools to facilitate network operations, such as the RPM quality measurement tool for multicast TV and remote mirroring capabilities to support legal intercept or advanced troubleshooting.
Using the RPM feature, the MPC480 can monitor the quality of multicast TV in the network and provide realtime information about the customer experience. This enable network engineers to proactively monitor service quality and to quickly pinpoint any issues in the network. Shorter troubleshooting and resolution time benefit the customer.
In addition to the CLI, iBOS also includes the ScriBOS script language (based on Python). Using ScriBOS the platform can be adapted to many operational environments and interact with OSS systems in ways no other router on the market can.
