ASR6000 L3 Gigabit Switch
Overview
The ASR 6000 is a Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet access switch with wire-speed switching and IPv4/IPv6 routing performance designed for data, voice and video service control.
A hybrid switch-ASIC and Network Processor (NPU) architecture makes it possible for the ASR 6000 to deliver wire-speed L2- and L3 switching with per-client service enforcement, as well as NPU-enabled features; such as Realtime Protocol Monitoring (RPM) of TV multicasts, and the programmable script motor allows customized and autonomous service control.
- The NPU can use up to one Gigabyte of memory for packet buffers and other purposes. This enables proper queuing and traffic shaping with no packet loss which, in turn, gives better link and network utilization of bandwidth and a smooth experience for end-users – this is how end-users expect Internet services to work.
- RPM provides realtime information about disturbances in delivery of multicast traffic, making it possible to quickly locate and eliminate IPTV interruptions without costly manual troubleshooting. This is vital in broadband networks that offer IPTV services. RPM also provides valuable information for the control and fulfillment of Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Service conditions and behavior can be adapted to fit any type of existing service deployment structure used by operators. Existing RADIUS based mechanisms, used for xDSL, can be reused by the ASR6000 which reduces investment costs in the OSS system for service providers when new services are deployed in the network.
The ASR 6000 is a Gigabit Ethernet aggregation switch and central office router used for GTTH service delivery by service providers, network operators and city networks.
The exhaustion of IPv4 addresses means that IPv6 deployment is now becoming mandatory in many networks. ASR6000 supports IPv6 unicast forwarding. Policies for traffic management and QoS also supports IPv6 which means that a client can use either IPv4 or IPv6, or both.
The ASR 6000 can be automatically configured and services can be provisioned to the ASR 6000 immediately as it connects to the network, which minimizes costly on-site visits. This automation also extends to customer service provisioning; the ASR 6000 can seamlessly forward the service to the end-user client (Set-Top-Box, IP phone or PC).
With a standard 19” size and pre-installed brackets, the ASR 6000 version is designed for placement in central offices, and Telco standard racks (for example, the ETSI 300mm standard chassis). Both models use AC power.
The ASR 6000 series is available in the following models:
ASR 6326-AC
Uplink: 2 x 10GE (SFP+) ports. Downlink: 24 x 10/100/1000BaseTX (RJ-45) interfaces and 4 x 100/1000BaseX (SFP) combo ports. Side-to-side cooling. All connectors in front. EUR AC power cable supplied.
