Waystream recruits Country Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Waystream, who develops and sells advanced digital infrastructure such as switches and routers for fiber-based broadband networks, continues to expand internationally and has hired Ulrich Hammerschmidt as Country Manager for the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland).

Ulrich Hammerschmidt’s role at Waystream includes being responsible for the DACH region, which means that he will be the primary interface for operators and enterprises who want to leverage Waystream’s expertise in building reliable, cost-effective and future-proof networks.

“We are very pleased that Ulrich Hammerschmidt is joining Waystream. His experience from large global IT companies and telecom operators combined with a proven track record of initiating and maintaining relationships makes him a perfect match for us in our efforts to strengthen our position in the DACH region as it is very important. Germany alone is Europe’s largest broadband market and the world’s 4th largest, says Johnny Hedlund, CEO of Waystream.

Ulrich Hammerschmidt has 20 years of experience in the global IT and telecommunication industry. During his carrier he has worked for and with large incumbent operators and small and medium service providers, always with a focus on establishing long-term relationships. Most recently, Ulrich held the position as Managing Partner at i2i Associates, which is a specialist company within ICT business development and innovation, and before that he has been working for Deutsche Telekom and Telekom Austria.

Demand for fast and stable Internet, where fiber is considered the best and most future-proof connectivity, is increasing sharply. In Europe, the market for fiber is expected to double within the next three years. Calculations show that the number of connections to fiber will amount to about 62 million, representing over 20% of all European households, by year 2019.
