Multi-gig support in Waystream FTTB switches enables up to 2.5Gbit/s broadband services in apartment buildings with existing copper Ethernet cabling. This is the fastest and cheapest way to upgrade the broadband services compared to ripping out the copper network and building fiber to each apartment. You only need to replace the switch installed in the building.

Waystream switches support up to 2.5Gbit/s link speed on category 5e or better cabling. The solution is backwards compatible with existing Ethernet network equipment which means that users need not replace their home routers unless they want to make use of the higher bandwidth.

Waystream's 7300 series have 24 or 48 ports that support the 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet standard. This means that the ports can operate at speeds of 10/100/1000/2500 Mbit/s over standard Ethernet Cat.5e or better cabling. The uplinks on the MS7300 switches support 10 and 25Gbit/s. The standard is compatible with existing computers, routers and switches.
